Parsons Chairs Featured In Southern Living
Posted by admin | decorating · news · parsons chairs
My wife was browsing through the July issue of Southern Living and a group of parsons chairs in one of the articles caught her eye. They looked almost identical to the chairs we make at Carrington Court. Now, there are a lot of manufacturers that make parsons chairs, but there are always subtle differences from company to company. So we looked in the back in the sources section and to our surprise--they are our chairs.
This has happened in the past in other magazines, but it is always a nice surprise to have something you made featured. The designer Jill Boothby did an awesome job and she has a beautiful house. She also has a lot of great tips. It's good to know that the chairs are going to be used day-to-day and not just for a one time photo shoot. Check out the article (31 Style Secrets from a Design Pro) starting on page 51. When the July issue shows up on the Southern Living website, I'll post a link.

I saw your chairs in the Southern Living article yesterday and was quite taken with them. The fact that I can order swatches tells me that your company is truly customer oriented. I ordered my swatches today.
I do have a question. As I recall the dimensions on the parsons chair featured in the article was 26" front to back but the seat is 17". First, that seems like a large difference,9". Is this correct? Second is 17" a comfortable seat depth?
Maybe in your blog you can help your customers determine if the chair dimensions will fit their needs.
And thsnk you for your blog. Is is most interesting.

Nancy,
Sorry for my delayed reply. The seat depth is from the front of the seat to the rear of the in-back (front of the back) of the chair. The chair depth would be the measurement you get when you place the chair against a wall and measure from the wall to the front of the seat. The difference in the numbers comes from the pitch of the back (how far the back leans back) and the additional few inches added by the thickness of the back and the scroll.
To make the chairs more comfortable, the back leans slightly rearward. This is called the "pitch." As far as the seat depth is concerned--this is a standard depth that we have used for many years. It's pretty much an industry standard, but you may see the depth an inch or so deeper or shorter depending on the manufacturer. I can't ever recall a time where there was a complaint about the depth, so I'd say in general it should be more than adequate for 99% of the population.
I hope this answers your questions. Let me know if you have any more or feel free to call us at 828.396.1049.

Can you tell me the name of the fabric featured on these chairs?
Thank you!

Gabrielle,
The fabric was originally a COM (Customers Own Material) order. However, since we had several people asking about it I have had it added to our line. It is called Susan Fennel.
Here's a link to it:
